If you're going to stumble, stumble in the first half of a two-legged cup tie on the road with the second leg at home to come.

If you're going to have a stumble, a stumble that sees you down 1-0 after the first leg of the League Cup semi-final with a home return leg at Anfield to come, is about as good as it gets and that's the place we find ourselves as we try to put Wednesday's loss to Tottenham into some kind of context.

Another factor at play on Wednesday's cup tie might have been that for Tottenham it was always going to be a game it was easier to get fired up for than it was for Liverpool given the Reds recently hammered London's Hotspurs by 6-3 in a game that wasn't as close as the final lopsided scoreline.

"With the result last time we were here, they were probably deflated from it and wanted to show something from it," right back Conor Bradley reflected following the defeat that puts them behind at the semi's half-way mark. "They're always going to show up with a bit more fight and things after that.

"We probably could have been a bit better on the ball at times but I thought that we were aggressive and we matched their physicality. So, bring on the second leg, Anfield is our home and we love playing there—and we've overcome worse than a 1-0, so we're going to be looking forward to it."

With the new-look Champions League league phase this season, that second leg won't happen until the 6th of February, a full month after Wednesday's setback for the Reds. Next up they face Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup 3rd Round before getting back into league against Nottingham Forest.
