Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez are the two options at Arne Slot’s disposal to lead the line for Liverpool as they take on Bournemouth at Anfield tomorrow.

The Reds have four out of five in all competitions this season, with their 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest last week their only defeat of the season so far.

Liverpool have scored seven Premier League goals so far, with Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz in fine form.

However, Jota has flattered to deceive so far with just one goal to his name and the likes of Nunez and Cody Gakpo haven’t got enough game time under their belts.

For the visit of the Cherries, Paul Merson feels it might be time for Slot to give Nunez a chance to lead the line over the misfiring Jota.

Nunez hasn’t started a game so far for Liverpool this season but Merson feels this is the perfect stage for the Uruguayan international as he’d be more effective than Jota against a team like Bournemouth that likes to sit back and defend.

“I would play Darwin Nunez instead of Diogo Jota in this game,” wrote Merson in his column for Sportskeeda.

“When teams sit back, which I think Bournemouth will do, Nunez is a good option. If Liverpool play Nunez, they can ping crosses into him and that could work in their favour.”

Merson also feels Cody Gakpo must start over Luis Diaz and predicted Liverpool to get a 2-0 win against Bournemouth tomorrow.

How have Jota and Nunez fared so far this season?

Jota, who joined Liverpool for £45m in 2020, has scored just one goal in 355 minutes of football across all competitions, which came on opening day in the 2-0 win against Ipswich Town.

The Portuguese international, however, seems to have Slot’s trust, having started each of Liverpool’s four games this season.

Nunez, on the other hand, has played just 84 minutes of football this season and has yet to score a goal or record an assist.

Gakpo got his first start of the season and put on a dazzling display against AC Milan, so the game against Bournemouth could be the Uruguayan’s chance to announce himself under Slot.
