Arne Slot made it five Premier League wins from six as manager of Liverpool with a gritty 2-1 win away to Wolves.

Gary O’Neil’s side gave the Reds a good test in the Black Country with Wolves giving Liverpool an even contest in what was a difficult game for Slot’s men, with goals from Ibrahima Konate and Mohamed Salah securing all three points.

With Liverpool now clear at the top of the Premier League, the result could be huge for the Anfield side in their quest to win the title, especially with Manchester City dropping points in their first game without Rodri, who is ruled out for the season.

And Slot has now given his verdict on if Liverpool actually deserved to win against Wolves.

Wolves made it ‘difficult’ for Liverpool at Molineux

Speaking to the press after the win, Slot admitted that Wolves made the game ‘difficult’ for Liverpool in the opening stages, with the Dutch coach praising O’Neil for how he set up his side to take on the Reds.

With Ryan Gravenberch winning the Man of the Match award, it was Liverpool’s defensive midfield and backline who were the key reason behind the result for the Merseyside giants, and Slot admits that Wolves game out with a game plan that worked against the Reds.

Slot said when asked if Liverpool deserved to win: “It’s maybe for others to judge, but I think the first 15 minutes were difficult for us. Wolves, had a week to prepare, and if you have a very good manager like Gary O’Neil, who is tactically really strong and comes up with a strong game plan and that’s what he did.

“But we were ready for this, you always have to wait and see exactly what he does. He overloaded our right side in a good manner, which made it difficult for us to control the game in the first 15 to 20 minutes. Then when the game lied down a bit, the energy went away and then I think we took more control over the game.”

Liverpool might feel they got away with one against Wolves

Liverpool have been efficient under Slot yet far from perfect, as seen in their historic loss against Nottingham Forest earlier this month, a result that had some fans questioning if the Dutch coach was even the right man for the job.

And against Wolves, Slot and Liverpool will feel like they got away with one, with the Reds hardly at their best as the Anfield side heavily relied on their defence to see out the win after Salah restored the visitors lead from the spot.

Indeed, Liverpool are going to get away with some lucky wins this season, a cliche that is used for title winners in the Premier League, and Slot knows that the Reds will have to do better in their next games against Bologna and Crystal Palace.
