Liverpool secured a last-gap 2-0 win against Brentford in the Premier League to open up a seven-point lead at the top of the table.

The Reds left it late but got the job done through Darwin Nunez, who enjoyed one of his finest moments as a Liverpool player as he came off the bench to score a dramatic stoppage-time brace.

Arne Slot’s side have a healthy lead at the top, but the gap looks likely to be cut to four points once again as Arsenal are currently leading against Aston Villa.

Nunez stole the show with his stunning cameo and understandably generated a lot of chatter after the game, but Slot has singled out another Liverpool player for special praise for his performance against Brentford.

After being left on the bench, Nunez came on and broke the deadlock in stoppage time as he celebrated passionately in front of the home fans.

Moments later, he doubled his tally as he smashed the ball home from close range after a fantastic lofted pass from Harvey Elliott.

While Slot acknowledged the fact that Nunez had his crowning moment, he reserved special praise for Elliott, who also came on as a substitute and made a big impact against the Bees.

"On all the other interviews, there was a lot of focus on Darwin,” began Slot in his post-match press conference.”

“And every time I said yeah but don't forget about Harvey, he had a big impact on both goals as well."

Elliott will get more game time in the coming weeks

Elliott fractured his foot early in the season and spent a sizable period on the sidelines.

The likes of Curtis Jones, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have been in decent touch, so he hasn’t managed to force his way into the starting XI this season.

However, Elliott has shown his class whenever he has played and made another telling contribution in what was a tricky away game in the Premier League.

Borussia Dortmund and Brighton are interested in signing Elliott, but as things stand, he’s still a vital part of the team and will look to play a much bigger role during the business end of the season.
