Liverpool took another small step closer to a dream Premier League title under Arne Slot with their win against Chelsea.

Slot may not be eyeing the Premier League trophy in his first season as Liverpool manager, having taken over in the Anfield dugout from Jurgen Klopp in the summer.

But after eight matches it is the Reds who lead the way, with their 21 points one ahead of rivals Man City in second.

Rafael Benitez loves what Slot is doing at Liverpool, with the former having once been adored by the Anfield faithful.

But now the latter is doing his best to endear himself to Reds fans everywhere, and he is certainly doing a fine job so far.

Slot will, however, simply need to take the season one game at a time, particularly with commitments away from the Premier League.

Discussing the current situation at Anfield following the win against Chelsea, Chris Sutton said on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club: "I think if you look under Klopp – once they really got going – they were always confident in the squad that they had and that they could push for major honours and I don’t think anything has necessarily changed other than the manager.

"They’ve started strongly but they aren’t going to start shouting their mouths off at this stage of the season and say that they are in a title race – they will just go week-to-week, keep winning games, heads down and working hard and improving to see where they are at the turn of the year.

"They are in a title race and I don’t think that that is in any doubt and they’ve been mightily impressive under the new manager."

Will Liverpool boss Arne Slot be drawn into title race talk?

Should Liverpool continue on their current path, Slot may be forced into discussing the Premier League trophy very soon.

It will, however, be the last thing on his mind, and fortunately it seems as though he is wise enough not to be drawn into any such discussion.

There is simply no need for the Dutchman to change anything at this moment in time, with fans of the club well aware of just how many more twists and turns can be expected between now and the end of the season.

Talk of Liverpool and the Premier League title must now take a break anyway, with the Merseyside club in Champions League action next.

Five Liverpool players missed training ahead of the trip to RB Leipzig, which will really worry Slot and indeed the Anfield faithful.

Injuries could be one of the main reasons why the club may not go on to clinch silverware this season, with Slot now needing to balance his squad if he is to continue his early momentum in the dugout.
