Mohamed Salah’s contract situation at Liverpool has been one of the biggest talking points of the Premier League season.
The 32-year-old attacker is currently set to leave Anfield as a free-agent at the end of this campaign with Liverpool yet to reach an agreement with Salah over a new deal, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk also having expiring contracts.
With Salah posting cryptic social media messages linked to his Liverpool future, there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight to this ongoing contract saga, a problem that is growing worse with the winger easily the best player in the world right now when it comes to current form.
And Salah’s former club FC Basel have now made a public push to re-sign the Egyptian international this summer.
Basel’s door ‘always open’ for Salah amid ongoing contract drama
Taking to Twitter, the Swiss giants posted a tongue-in-cheek message to their former attacker that their door was always open for him, with Basel posted: “The Joggeli-doors are always open for you… Mohamed Salah.”
Salah first made a name for himself in Europe with Basel after a string of impressive performances with the Swiss giants, with former Liverpool attacker Xherdan Shaqiri and former Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny all following similar paths with the Rot-Blau.

Indeed, Liverpool players returning to a former club is a common trend based off transfers in recent years, a fact that could give Basel some hope that they might manage to pull off the impossible and bring Salah back to Switzerland.
However, with Al-Hilal keen on making Salah the successor to Neymar, Basel face some huge competition for the winger both financially and based on stature, with the prospect of the forward staying at Liverpool also on the table.
What is the current state of play with Salah’s new Liverpool contract?
Salah’s contract situation has rumbled on for months now, with Liverpool sources torn on what the current climate of the saga actually is with an offer on the table for the 32-year-old Premier League superstar.
With Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk in a similar boat, Liverpool seem lost in what to do with awarding three of their most important players new contracts, with the potential loss of Slaah something that the Reds can’t allow to happen this year.
Indeed, Liverpool need to pull their finger out of their ear and get a move on with handing Salah a new deal, with the winger simply too good to be allowed to leave for nothing at the end of this season.
