The squad will do their pre-season work in Asia this summer
After the news broke that Liverpool will be headed to Asia for their pre-season work, Japanese captain Wataru Endō expressed his happiness at the prospect of seeing Liverpool fans in his home country:
"I'm really happy about it. I'm so excited to be going to Japan with my teammates, and I'm really looking forward to it.
"I know there are a lot of Liverpool fans in Japan, as well as Premier League fans, so I believe everyone is really looking forward to it.
"I hope all the Liverpool fans in Japan fully enjoy the team's visit."
Endō also spoke on how he would entertain his teammates, suggesting a lot of culture Japan has to offer: "Each player has different things they want to do in Japan. Some of them love anime, so I'd like to take them to an anime shop.
"Others enjoy Japanese food, especially sushi, so I think it would be great to take them to a sushi restaurant."
In terms of a sense of place, the midfielder notes some connections between his adopted home on Merseyside and his hometown: "When I go to the waterfront in Liverpool, it reminds me of the port in Yokohama, where I'm from."
The Reds will be in Japan as their last stop on the tour, with details and dates to be announced shortly. Prior to their time in Japan the team will be in Hong Kong and China.
