'Get a grip': Former Aston Villa player blasts Jamie Carragher and warns him to 'leave Salah alone'

Liverpool take on Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League later today, but all the talk has been about Mohamed Salah during the buildup to the game.
The Egyptian scored two crucial goals to spearhead the Reds to a 3-2 victory against Southampton and spoke candidly to the media about his contract situation.
Salah said he was disappointed with Liverpool for not putting a contract offer on the table, adding that he’s ‘more out than in’ at Anfield currently.
Much like anything else Liverpool-related, Jamie Carragher responded to Salah’s comments and branded him ‘selfish’ for putting himself above the club.
And now, one of Salah’s former teammates for Egypt has jumped to his defence.
Jamie Carragher slammed for responding to Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool contract plea
Speaking on MNF, Carragher said Salah’s comments were ill-timed as Liverpool have two important games coming up against Real Madrid and Manchester City.
“The most important thing is Liverpool winning the Premier League.
“That is more important than any of those players, and if he continues to put comments out or his agent keeps putting cryptic tweets out, that’s selfish, that’s thinking about themselves and not the football club.”
The Liverpool legend’s comments didn’t go down well with fans and pundits as he was subjected to a lot of criticism on social media.
Ahmed El Mohamady, a former Egyptian international who represented the likes of Aston Villa and Hull City during his career, responded emphatically to Carragher’s comments as he took to X to voice his frustration.
What did Jose Mourinho say about Jamie Carragher?
Jose Mourinho is one of the most enigmatic footballing personalities of his generation and has never shied away from having a bold opinion on two.
During his second stint at Chelsea in 2015, he once took a sly dig at Carragher and it appears as if these are the comments El Mohamady is referring to.
Mourinho said (via Daily Mail): “Jamie Carragher talks too much for someone who isn’t even among the top 1,000 defenders in football history.
“How can someone who never won the Premier [League] talk about what it takes to win the Premier [League]?”
Carragher is not a popular man at Anfield currently but it could be argued that he’s got a point.
Salah is well within his rights to speak out candidly about his future, but the timing could have been a lot better as Liverpool prepare for a run of fixtures that could define their season.
However, Andy Roberton feels Salah is fully focused on winning games for Liverpool despite his contract standoff with the club, which is a clear sign that all the talk about his future won’t take a toll on his form.
