'Got the chills': £60m Liverpool player amazed after the crowd started chanting his name last night

Yesterday was by and large a good day for Liverpool’s raft of international players.

With 13 of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team in-line to play and 12 eventually getting out on the pitch, there was plenty of action to sift through this morning.

Three Reds scored for their countries. Conor Bradley’s first international goal was followed by a tap-in from Alexis Mac Allister. Although the Argentine’s strike wasn’t enough to win over his country’s national media.

The last Liverpool player to score certainly didn’t have that problem, though. Dominik Szoboszlai has long been the sweetheart of Hungarian football, and after another goal last night, his stardom seems to have been enhanced even further.

Hungary fans chant for Dominik Szoboszlai

Already his nation’s captain at just 23, Szoboszlai is a megastar back in Hungary. His £60m move to Liverpool last summer has only reinforced that.

Despite his fame and popularity though, the midfielder was seemingly taken aback by hearing the crowd chant his name last night.

Speaking to Nemzeti Sport following Hungary’s 2-0 win over Kosovo, Szoboszlai admitted to getting ‘chills’ from what he heard in the stadium.

“We’re happy we were able to win, we’re going forward,” Liverpool’s No.8 explained. “There is harmony in the team, we are a good community, which is why we are successful.

“There was something in these two games that we need to learn from, but we can also take a positive experience with us, especially in the second half.

“I got the chills when my name was chanted. I hope there will be another time.”

Szoboszlai back in a good place for Hungary

Hungary are in a really good moment with Szoboszlai as captain. The Magyars are undefeated since the Liverpool man was given the armband.

Despite that, it hasn’t all been straightforward. Szoboszlai admitted to almost ‘losing his head’ amid frustration during Friday’s win over Turkey. But by and large, things have been smooth.

Last night was another example of that, and with the Liverpool man bagging another goal, Reds fans will be hopeful that he can translate that form back to his club.

Szoboszlai now has five goals in his last eight games for club and country. Hopefully a strong end to the season is coming. He just needs a chant from the Kop now…
