Liverpool have dispelled notions of a drop-off this season as they continue to look good.

There was a little uncertainty over what to expect from the Reds this campaign after losing Jurgen Klopp.

However, Arne Slot has come in and done a terrific job so far With six wins from seven games, the Dutchman is looking like an excellent appointment. Trophies could be on the way for Liverpool.

Slot is no stranger to silverware, of course. The Liverpool head coach managed Feyenoord for three seasons, winning the Eredivisie as well as a Dutch Cup.

In that time, Slot also worked with some really good players. With some such as Mats Wieffer and Yankuba Minteh now doing well in the Premier League, it’s clear that the 46-year-old had a handy team.

But like every manager, he was still trying to add quality to it. And according to one Netherlands international, Slot tried to sign him back in 2023 and he’d now be interested in linking up with his compatriot at Liverpool.

Arnaut Danjuma reveals Arne Slot talks

Liverpool are not currently in the market for a new forward. Having signed Federico Chiesa over the summer, the Reds are incredibly well stocked in that department.

Nevertheless, as the additions of Chiesa, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez since 2022 have shown, Liverpool have been on the lookout for attacking talent.

As part of that search, Liverpool were said to be looking at Arnaut Danjuma back in 2022.

Danjuma was doing well at Villarreal at the time, having joined for around £21m from Bournemouth. In the end the move never happened, though, and according to the 27-year-old, he almost joined Feyenoord a year later.

“Feyenoord had shown a bit more interest in me [in 2023],” Danjuma says via FC Update. “That was mainly when Arne Slot was the coach there.

“I considered it at the time and spoke to Slot. I am a fan of his way of playing and have a lot of confidence in him as a coach. But I didn’t think it was the right step for me at the time. I think Girona is also a great step now, which suits my career.”

Asked if he would join Liverpool under Slot, Danjuma struck a hopeful tone, despite the virtually non-existent chance of a move.

“I’m from Everton, huh?” he reportedly laughed. “As a player you have to be ambitious and when a big club comes along, you always have to consider it. I don’t think there will be many people at the table who will say no to Liverpool.”

No chance for Arnaut Danjuma to join Liverpool

In some ways it’s a shame the way things have gone for Danjuma. He was very good indeed for Villarreal during the 2021/22 season and looked like he could be on the cusp of a big move.

But with that having failed to materialise, Danjuma has spent time out on-loan with Tottenham and Everton and is now back in the Champions League with Girona.

At 27, there is still a small chance that the six-cap Netherlands forward could make another leap forward somewhere. A good display this year with the Catalan side could earn him that.

But what can be virtually certain is that it won’t be with Liverpool. Slot clearly liked Danjuma and he would likely have been a good signing for Feyenoord.

With the Reds, however, Arne should be shopping in a slightly different category of player.
