Liverpool managed yet another win in the Premier League with a 2-1 victory against Wolves, with Ryan Gravenberch once again starring.

Arne Slot picking out Gravenberch for praise at full-time with the Dutch international thriving in the defensive midfield role alongside Alexis Mac Allister, with the 22-year-old looking like a new player at Liverpool this season.

Having already been compared to Patrick Vieira by Jamie Carragher earlier this season, Gravenberch looks set to become one of Liverpool’s key players this season under Slot, who has finally got a tune out of the former Bayern Munich man.

And Owen Hargreaves has now shared if Gravenberch is on course to become as good as Rodri in the defensive midfield role.

Gravenberch not specialist enough to become Liverpool’s Rodri

Speaking on Premier League Productions, the former Liverpool star made the claim that Gravenberch isn’t specialised enough in the defensive midfield role to become Liverpool’s version of Rodri, with the Spanish international arguably Manchester City’s most important player.

Indeed, Gravenberch has always been a jack-of-all-trades midfielder throughout his short career, yet with the Dutch international thriving in the defensive role for Liverpool, there is a chance that the youngster could hit the heights of Rodri in the years to come.

Hargreaves disagrees, though, with the pundit said: "He has done brilliantly well, but he is not a defensive midfield player, which is fine because when you are playing teams like this. He is 190cm. He is 22-years-old, he has got everything. But he is not a specialist defensive midfield player.

“There is a difference. I think he is a brilliant midfield player, box to box depending on who you play, but I think in a big game, is a one-off game to go and win the Premier League or the Champions League, I think you need a specialist. Liverpool showed that with Fabinho and City showed that with Rodri."

Gravenberch could become something more to Liverpool than a Rodri-like player

Gravenberch is without question one of Liverpool’s best players based on current form, with the midfielder starting the new season in exceptional form and making a real claim for himself in the Reds’ starting XI.

And whilst talk of Gravenberch becoming Liverpool’s answer to Rodri is exciting, the former Ajax wonderkid could become so much more than what the Spanish international offers to City.

Gravenberch is one of the most well-equipped midfielders in the Premier League despite his tender age, and the Liverpool man could become a real superstar if Slot is able to tap into the 22-year-old’s potential and to unlock his skillset to the max.
