Liverpool’s win over Chelsea this weekend was a welcome one and the midfield three of Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai played a key role in the victory.

Reds boss Arne Slot opted to go with a different trio and it paid off.

The incoming Jones scored the winner and won a penalty for the Reds, while Szoboszlai’s constant running and Gravenberch’s quality in taking the ball off the back four shone through.

Of course, Gravenberch has been open about his new role in the Liverpool team and is one of the players very much benefitting from Arne Slot’s arrival.

However, while Gravenberch is getting praised, the Dutchman has also taken time out to make sure his midfielder partner Jones gets a mention.

Ryan Gravenberch praises Curtis Jones after Liverpool beat Chelsea

Speaking to Liverpool’s official media channels after the win over Chelsea, Gravenberch praised his teammates for getting over the line.

And in particular, he had some kind words towards fellow midfielder, Curtis Jones.

“He’s a really good player,” Gravenberch said.

“I see he has the same qualities what I have – he’s really good on the ball, he’s really good in driving with the ball, you see the depth in his game. He was unbelievable.

“I know the qualities from Curtis and I know what I can expect from [him]. What I said, he did really well. I know when he has the ball where I have to be and vice versa. He’s a really good player.”

Jones and Gravenberch will be huge for Liverpool

There’s nothing better for a manager than seeing your big decisions pay off and that’s exactly what Arne Slot got yesterday.

Leaving Alexis Mac Allister out of the starting XI was a big call but in the end, it was a call that paid off.

Having Curtis Jones playing well and also having Gravenberch be the number six they failed to sign in the summer is a big deal for the Reds at the moment.

If they can both keep fit and play to the level showed at the weekend throughout the season, then Liverpool’s title chances will further increase.
