Liverpool are top of the table as we head into the busy winter period of English football and Alan Shearer has picked out four Reds stars in his team of the season so far.

The Reds have shone under Arne Slot with some big performances from a number of players.

With no summer signings apart from Federico Chiesa, Liverpool’s players were given a clean slate and some have taken advantage of that.

And picking his team of the season for the Premier League’s official website, Shearer has named FOUR Liverpool stars, including one player who couldn’t get a look in under Jurgen Klopp.

With four Liverpool players getting into the XI, it seems Shearer has been suitably impressed by the Reds.

However, while the inclusions of Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold were obvious choices, it is Shearer’s selection of £34m signing Ryan Gravenberch that is the standout.

“He’s adapted really well to a slightly more defensive role this season, and his dominance in midfield is a big reason why Liverpool have been so good in both attack and defence,” Shearer said of Gravenberch.

Arne Slot also impresses Shearer with manager selection

While the players are doing the business on the pitch, there is praise to be had for Arne Slot as well.

The Dutch coach has taken to English football brilliantly and the players seem to love playing under him already.

Indeed, Slot has been so impressive that Shearer has given the Liverpool boss the nod in terms of being the manager of the season so far as well.

“When influential long-term figures have left other clubs, we have sometimes seen a sharp decline. Not this time. Liverpool appear even harder to beat than they were under Jurgen Klopp,” Shearer said.

Liverpool, then, are very much the dominant force in Shearer’s eyes this season and it will be interesting to see if the Reds can maintain this and have as many players in the end of season team.
