On Monday, Feyenoord’s Santiago Giménez hinted about a move to Liverpool, after having snubbed Nottingham Forest last summer.

The striker stated he would be happy to reunite with Arne Slot, who left the Dutch club for Liverpool at the end of last season.

ESPN had a chat with the 23-year-old where he reveals contacting the Liverpool manager to discuss Nottingham Forest’s offer.

Nuno Espírito Santo’s side were keen on signing the Mexico international and had tabled several offers before reaching an agreement with Feyenoord. The deal didn’t go through because the frontman wasn’t in favour of joining the Premier League side.

Earlier in the season, Giménez stated he wasn’t completely convinced to leave Feyenoord for Nottingham Forest in the summer window. He’s also confident the Eredivisie side will facilitate a transfer in the future.

The Mexican played two seasons under the current Liverpool manager at Feyenoord and took Slot’s advice, after Nottingham Forest made an offer.

“I spoke to him a couple of times when I got that offer. I asked him for his advice, and he gave it to me. The content of the conversation remains between us, but that was the last time we spoke,” he said.

It may be possible that the Merseyside club’s manager had a role in Giménez rejecting Nottingham Forest.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are leading both the league and the Champions League table and Giménez isn’t surprised by this.

“We are not surprised by what he’s [Slot] doing now at Liverpool. The football world didn’t know him that well, but we did. We knew what he was capable of and that he is a great coach, not just for Liverpool, but for any team,” Giménez explained.
