Liverpool’s victory over Chelsea this weekend had plenty to like about it and even Gabby Agbonlahor has now praised one particular player for his performances this season.

The Reds got a big win over Enzo Maresca’s side to continue their fine start to the season and with Arsenal losing, now sit top of the table.

For Arne Slot, life as Liverpool manager couldn’t have started any better and while a tough run of games are to come, he’s enjoying what he’s seeing.

Of course, the key for Slot is having all of his squad contributing. And after bringing Curtis Jones into the fold this weekend, Slot certainly got that.

Jones was praised for his performance by Anthony Gordon, and now, Agbonlahor has also lauded the midfielder.

Gabby Agbonlahor says Curtis Jones has proven him wrong

Speaking on TalkSPORT and giving his latest team of the week, Agbonlahor admitted that he’d been critical of Jones in the past.

But under Arne Slot, the former Villa striker feels Jones is thriving.

"For me, I have been critical of Curtis Jones in his Liverpool career, but this season, I don't know why under Arne Slot, he has turned up,” Agbonlahor said.

“He's doing what he should be doing. He's making runs into the box, he's getting on the ball, he's driving, he's making some nice touches, and against Chelsea, maybe he should have got two penalties, won the penalty for Salah and he took his goal well.

“That's what you want to see from midfielders. Make that third man run, and that's what he does for his goal. Great finish and I think Curtis Jones was the Man of the Match for the game against Chelsea."

Liverpool title win would silence Agbonlahor

We all know that Gabby Agbonlahor likes to go on the wind up when it comes to Liverpool and his run-ins with Jurgen Klopp are well known at Anfield.

Of course, there are times when a lot of what’s said is in good nature and a bit of banter.

However, while Agbonlahor is praising Jones here, a Liverpool title win would not sit too well with him at all and it would be great to see the Reds do it, just for his reaction.

As for Jones, he was excellent against Chelsea and after overcoming a few issues, he looks to be getting close to his very best.
