'I'm faster than him': Liverpool player insists he's the quickest player in the squad, not Federico Chiesa

Liverpool have so many different ways to hurt opposition teams this season.

Under Arne Slot, the Reds have become a side who like to pass whoever they are playing into submission a little more than what we saw under Jurgen Klopp.

Despite that, Liverpool still possess some devastating pace across the pitch and can hit teams on the counter-attack at lighting speed.

This has already been evidence more than once this season, with Luis Diaz’s back-to-front goal against Brentford perhaps the best example of it.

With Federico Chiesa now added to the Reds attack, we may start to see even more of that pace on the counter.

But while Chiesa is about as rapid as they come, one Liverpool player has been insisting that the Italian is not the fastest man in the Liverpool squad.

Dominik Szoboszlai says he’s faster than Federico Chiesa

Chiesa had looked a little rusty upon his first Premier League appearance against Bournemouth last week.

With a first start under his belt since then, though, it will be interesting to see how involved the 26-year-old is against Wolves on Saturday.

It is unlikely that Fede will start, of course. But if he comes off the bench against a tiring Wolves, his speed could be a real weapon.

One man who is expected to come back into the team from the beginning at Molineux is Dominik Szoboszlai. Szoboszlai is another player with great speed, although to the naked eye he is not as fast as Chiesa.

Video game creators EAFC agree, and have rated the Italian with 93 pace on this year’s edition. Szoboszlai is given a score of 82.

But as Diogo Jota and Alexis Mac Allister revealed this to the Hungarian in the always enjoyable video of Liverpool players reacting to their ratings, Szoboszlai took exception.

“Mine [pace] should be the highest in the team,” says the 23-year-old. When told that Chiesa had indeed pipped him, Szoboszlai’s face was a picture.

Holding up his flip-flops at the AXA Training Centre coffee bar, Liverpool’s No.8 laid down a challenge to Chiesa. “Put me now with this one and I’m faster than him!” Szoboszlai declared.

Who is the fastest in the Liverpool team?

It is hardly a surprise to see Chiesa named as the fastest player at Liverpool. Even after a damaging ACL injury in 2021, the Italy international is still so hard to catch.

While Szoboszlai is relatively quick, with think the EAFC folks have got it fairly spot on. He doesn’t touch Chiesa.

Two players who arguably do are Diaz and Darwin Nunez. Both run Fede close, picking up 90 ratings.

During the video, which Jota and Mac Allister host, the pace attribute is easily the most hotly contested one.

Mac Allister’s rating of 69 is a source of much hilarity to everyone who hears about it, but that doesn’t stop the Argentine offering to race Diaz, Nunez and Chiesa to end this argument once and for all.
