Liverpool booked their place in the last-16 of the UEFA Champions League with Harvey Elliott the match-winner for the Reds.

The England youth international came off the bench to win the game for Liverpool as Elliott’s strike from 25-yards took a lucky deflection to restore the Anfield side’s lead and to make it seven wins from seven in the Champions League this season.

With Arne Slot praising Elliott after the midfielder’s impact from the bench against Brentford on Saturday, the former Fulham wonderkid increased his stock at Liverpool even further with his first Champions League goal on Merseyside.

And Mohamed Salah has now shared what impressed him most about Elliott’s performance against Lille.

Salah praises Elliott for returning to top form after injury problems

Speaking to Amazon Prime post-match, the Liverpool superstar lauded Elliott for returning to his best having suffered from a number of injury problems this season, with the midfielder missing the first few months of the campaign due to fitness issues.

Salah said: “He was injured at the beginning of the season and when he came back it was tough with the guys in midfield, but I’m happy for him and to always help him. He’s a great lad and always tries to give his best, even if it’s five minutes or 45 minutes today, I’m happy for him.”

With Elliott linked with Borussia Dortmund and Brighton & Hove Albion, the 21-year-old midfielder is entering an interesting period in his Liverpool career with the youngster showing in recent weeks that he can be a real asset for Slot’s plans going into upcoming seasons.

Yet after such high praise from Salah, Elliott’s roots seem to be firmly planted at Liverpool for the time being, with the Anfield no. 19 really growing into his own in recent weeks since fully recovering from his niggling injury problems.

Elliott caps off Liverpool heroics by shutting down transfer rumours

It was quite a night for Elliott having won the game for Liverpool with a top performance from the bench, with the Reds now through to the next round of the Champions League and looking like real favourites to go all the way in the competition.

And Elliott also clarified recent rumours surrounding his Liverpool future by confirming he wants to stay at Anfield, with the midfielder saying when asked about his celebration: “I think it’s pretty clear to be honest, I’m not leaving! I said it the other day in an interview, this is my team. This is my club. I'm a massive fan and we're in a great position.”

Indeed, Elliott revealing that he has no intention of leaving Liverpool is nothing short of huge for Slot, and if the midfielder can stay fit, there’s a real chance that the youngster can re-establish himself as one of the key players in the squad and become a starting midfielder alongside Alexis Mac Allsiter or Ryan Gravneberch.
