A striker is high up on the shopping list for Liverpool this summer.

Arne Slot has been playing with Luis Diaz for the majority of the current season through the middle as the struggles of Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez in front of goal have been clear for all to see.

That has been evident across the Reds’ last two games as Liverpool tend to struggle when Mohamed Salah is not having his best day.

Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool this summer after the Merseyside club rejected a bid for him in January and Diaz is one that could follow out the Anfield exit door.

Should both leave, which could also include Jota, Slot will need them replaced and Alan Shearer has one suggestion.

Alan Shearer suggests Liverpool should move for Liam Delap

When it comes to striker targets, Alexander Isak is top of Liverpool’s list as the Newcastle star is perfect for Slot’s system and is currently in the form of his life.

However, a major roadblock in that deal could be the price tag the Magpies place on the Swedish star as it is expected to be north of £120m.

That could prompt the Reds to look at alternatives and with Liverpool linked with Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap recently, Shearer suggests the English striker could replace Nunez at the Premier League leaders.

“Liverpool are going to need a centre-forward,” Shearer stated on The Rest Is Football when Delap’s name was put forward as a suggestion for the Merseyside club to sign. “They might try and move Nunez on and bring someone else into that position. There will be big football clubs after Delap I’m sure of that.”

A deal for Delap is likely to cost suitors around £40m as Premier League clubs are aware that Man City have a buy-back clause set close to that figure, which means Ipswich have lost some leverage on what they can demand for a sale.

That is a big drop from the fee Newcastle will demand for Isak, which makes Delap a possibility for Liverpool heading into the summer transfer window.

Gary Lineker heaps praise on Liverpool’s Curtis Jones

During the latest episode of The Rest Is Football following England’s 2-0 win over Albania, Gary Lineker also took the time to praise Curtis Jones for the performance the Liverpool star put in on Friday night at Wembley.

English media were content with Jones in the middle of the park for the Three Lions, however, Lineker admired what he saw from the 24-year-old.

“Curtis Jones, I like him in there,” Lineker said about Jones after his latest England display. “He’s tidy, he’s very technical, you know, he wriggles out of situations and he’s very confident on the ball.

“When Curtis Jones has had the opportunity, like we said before, he’s taken it. And that’s what you’ve got to continue to do to try and force your manager’s hand.”

Next season is set to be the biggest of Jones’ career as he looks to become a regular starter at Liverpool and his performances on the international stage will only draw Slot’s attention to him even more.
