Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate impressed once more as the Reds defeated Wolves 2-1 in the Premier League.

Konate was disappointed about a Man of the Match snub against Wolves, with the honour instead going to Ryan Gravenberch.

The Liverpool pair both shone as the Merseyside outfit battled hard to leave Molineux with all three points.

Arne Slot will be delighted with the result, which leaves his side top of the Premier League table after six matches.

Konate put the visitors ahead as he rose highest to head home a Diogo Jota cross, with the goal coming in first-half stoppage time.

Ibrahima Konate reveals Arne Slot half-time message vs Wolves

But Rayan Ait-Nouri levelled for the hosts in the 56th minute, with Konate and Alisson failing to deal with the Wolves attack.

That will have hugely frustrated Slot, particularly given his message to the Liverpool players after the first 45 minutes.

Speaking to the Liverpool website, Konate has revealed that message, saying: "Today was a big fight against Wolves. The most important thing today for us was to take the three points.

"We are very happy and now we have to be focused for the next game. But we have to learn about what we missed – and I think this is the most important [thing] today.

"I remember the first half was very hard for the team because we were late, and this is what the manager said [at half-time] – we need more concentration and more aggression when we start the pressing.

"I think when we came back [for] the second half we did it well [in] the first 15 minutes but afterwards it was a big battle again. But we expect this game today and I think we have to keep this on our mind and learn about what we missed today."

Liverpool edge past Wolves to go top of the Premier League table

The Reds would have been on a high after smashing West Ham 5-1 in the League Cup third round during the week.

But the trip to Wolves represented a different and dangerous challenge, even with the struggles of Gary O'Neil's side this season.

Slot did, however, guide his side to an important three points, on a weekend where Man City could only draw with Newcastle United.

Wolves certainly made their opponents worry at times, with the narrow defeat leaving them rock bottom of the table.

Micah Richards had a mixed review on Konate, who now has plans to extend his account in the competition, having also scored a header against AC Milan in the Champions League.

"First goal in the Premier League and I hope it’s not the last," he said. "Yes, I’m very happy. It was a very nice cross from Jota.

"OK, I scored but the most important thing is that we won today. We work a lot on that and I hope me and Virg [van Dijk] will score more goals this season."
