Liverpool remain top of the Premier League table under Arne Slot after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Diogo Jota scored the only goal of the game at Selhurst Park, with Liverpool praised by Palace boss Oliver Glasner for their efforts away from home.

Slot has now guided Liverpool to six wins from seven in his first league campaign at Anfield, with just one defeat so far.

The Reds have 18 Premier League points so far, with that tally keeping them ahead of Man City and Arsenal in second on 17 each.

Worryingly, however, it was not a perfect day at Selhurst Park, with Alisson and Alexis Mac Allister picking up injuries.

Alan Shearer and Michah Richards make Liverpool title claim

And that is an issue that could prevent Liverpool from winning the Premier League title this season, according to Alan Shearer.

He was asked on BBC Match of the Day by Gary Lineker: "Liverpool top, we've seen Man City and Arsenal as well. Could they? Can they? Will they?"

And Shearer replied: "They certainly can, absolutely yeah. They need to stay clear of injuries. We've seen a couple that they've had today, but I think we've seen enough already in the first few games to say that they'll be strong, he's made a really good start."

Micah Richards meanwhile responded: "The thing is Chelsa and Arsenal are next, that's when we are going to judge them. But they look good, in a different way to [Jurgen] Klopp. More slower-paced, through the lines, slower build-up and all those sorts of things, but they're doing well."

How badly will injuries impact Arne Slot at Liverpool?

Mac Allister clearly had a real issue against Palace given his half-time withdrawal, while Alisson was infuriated after his problem forced him off with just over 10 minutes to go.

Both have been key players under Slot so far, but while they will be massively missed, Liverpool do have more than capable replacements.

Only Federico Chiesa arrived in the summer transfer window, but Klopp left Slot with a hugely talented and importantly large squad.

Vítezslav Jaros came in for Alisson and impressed on his Liverpool debut, although the impressive Caoimhin Kelleher is likely to deputise for the Brazilian after missing out against Palace.

Dominik Szoboszlai meanwhile replaced Mac Allister with ease, with Wataru Endo also capable of filling in in midfield.
