Arne Slot will be looking to bolster his Liverpool forward line this summer.
Rumours of Darwin Nunez leaving Anfield and Luis Diaz potentially joining Barcelona, mean that the Reds will likely have to dip into the forward market this upcoming window.
In terms of possible attacking signings, Liverpool are keeping tabs on Matheus Cunha following the Brazilian’s magnificent displays this season.
Cunha even impressed Virgil van Dijk, after he scored in Wolves’ 2-1 loss at Anfield back in February.
With clubs such as Liverpool circling for his signature, Cunha has since outlined his ambitions to move on from Wolves this summer.
Matheus Cunha reveals ambition to leave Wolves
Fresh from starring for Brazil during the international break, Cunha is now seemingly planning ahead for the summer.
During an interview with The Guardian, the 25-year-old revealed that he has told Wolves that he wishes to exit Molineux this summer, claiming he wants to take the ‘next step’:
"I had a lot of offers but I wouldn't feel well if I had done it," he says. "Some things you can't control but I couldn't leave the club in the middle of the season, in a difficult situation, in the relegation zone.
"Now, we're close to achieving our goal [of staying up]. But I've made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential."
Cunha could be Liverpool’s Robert Firmino replacement
Since Roberto Firmino’s departure in 2023, Liverpool have failed to find a long-term replacement up top, with both Nunez and Diogo Jota failing to fill the void.
With that being said, Cunha has been compared to Firmino in the past – suggesting the Wolves man could be the perfect replacement for the former number nine.
When you look at the pair’s numbers, the comparison does run true in some aspects.
Matheus Cunha 24/25 | Roberto Firmino 20/21 | |
Apps | 26 | 36 |
Goals | 13 | 9 |
Assists | 4 | 7 |
Shots (per 90) | 3.61 | 2.63 |
Goal creating actions (per 90) | 9 | 11 |
Tackles & interceptions (per 90) | 2.02 | 1.40 |
Both are very creative in the final third in terms of goals and assists, with defensive work also a key part of their game.
Cunha’s ambitions to ‘fight for titles’ would no doubt be met at Anfield and he could help fire Liverpool to more trophies if he can replicate his Wolves form on Merseyside.
