Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to impress under Arne Slot, but fans will be worried about what his future holds.

Alexander-Arnold's chances of joining Real Madrid have increased, with their right-back Dani Carvajal suffering a lengthy injury.

The Liverpool defender is a crucial player for Slot at both ends of the pitch, but worryingly his contract expires next summer.

Jason Cundy is shocked about Alexander-Arnold's situation, with the right-back potentially leaving on a free transfer at the end of the season.

That will be the case if he is not handed a new deal between now and then, while there is also the chance he could leave Anfield in January.

Ally McCoist makes Trent Alexander-Arnold exit claim at Liverpool

It would be a massive loss for Liverpool, who have heavily relied upon their star right-back for several seasons now.

Ally McCoist has now weighed in on the situation, urging the Reds to sort out a new deal for Alexander-Arnold, but adding that his exit wouldn't be the end of the world for Liverpool.

Asked if Alexander-Arnold is irreplaceable, McCoist said on talkSPORT (8.55am, 7 October): "He is not irreplaceable, no, but he is a fantastic player.

"England and Liverpool, in my opinion, are a far better team with him in it. But is he irreplaceable? No, he is not."

Arne Slot must now focus on new Trent Alexander-Arnold deal

Slot has had plenty to deal with since taking over from Jurgen Klopp in the summer, and succeeding the German was always going to be a tough challenge.

But the Dutchman has exceeded expectations so far, guiding Liverpool to the very top of the Premier League table.

He also impressed in his first transfer window by keeping hold of key players, as well as bringing in Federico Chiesa.

Now he has settled in, however, Slot must prioritise a new deal for Alexander-Arnold, who will be crucial to any success in the near future.

Liverpool do have the hugely talented Conor Bradley waiting in the wings at right-back, but the Northern Ireland international is some way off replicating the displays of the first-choice player in that position.
