Fabian Hurzeler hails Anfield atmosphere after Liverpool 2-1 Brighton
Brighton were by far the better team in the first half as they took the game to Liverpool at Anfield and went into the interval with a deserved lead.
They should have added to their advantage, though, as Caoimhin Kelleher made a brilliant save to prevent Georginio Rutter from giving the away side a two-goal lead.
The Seagulls were made to pay for their missed opportunity as Liverpool showed their class to get all three points in the second half.
Hurzeler admits his players his players lost their composure thanks to the Anfield crowd, which eventually cost them the game.
“The performance was easily good enough to win this game, especially the first half,” said the German at a press conference after the game.
“We got a little bit attracted by the atmosphere and these things are important for the results.”
“I only experienced [Anfield] atmosphere on the television so far and now in person and these moments we needed to stay calm. We had solutions but we couldn’t find them and the Liverpool dominance became bigger.”
What next for Liverpool before the international break?
The Anfield crowd were in full voice in the second half and Liverpool will hope for more of the same in the coming week as they face Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa at home.
Arne Slot will aim to keep his perfect record in the UEFA Champions League this season against Xabi Alonso’s side, while the Premier League clash against Aston Villa promises to be an exciting contest between two in-form teams.
