Liverpool left it late against Brentford a dramatic stoppage-time brace from Darwin Nunez spearheaded them to a 2-0 win away from home.

The Reds are now seven points clear at the top of the table, although Arsenal can reduce the gap to four if they beat Aston Villa in the game that has just kicked off.

Liverpool looked like they were headed towards another draw but Nunez came off the bench to save the day for his team as he silenced his critics with a match-winning display.

The game was obviously of particular interest to the Arsenal faithful due to their involvement in the Premier League

And judging by how they reacted to Nunez’s heroics, they weren’t best pleased as the Reds returned to winning ways.

Nunez missed the Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest due to a suspension but was back in the squad for this one, although he had to settle for a place on the bench as Luis Diaz was chosen to lead the line.

The Colombian was ineffective once again and was substituted in the second half as Nunez came onto the pitch to help Liverpool break the deadlock.

And while he left it late, he did exactly that as he scored two goals that could prove to be priceless in the Premier League title race.

The Liverpool players lifted Nunez off his feet at the full-time whistle, which is a sign that they were more than thrilled for the Uruguayan striker as he has endured a difficult spell this season.

However, there was a contrasting reaction at the Emirates Stadium ahead of Arsenal’s clash against Aston Villa as journalist John Murray reported the live scenes from the ground.

“The groans and gasps on the concourse here at the Emirates as the Darwin Nunez goals went in,” said Murray via BBC.

“That simply means Arsenal need to follow up their very good win against Tottenham with another one.”

Nunez will look to build on Brentford heroics

In the grand scheme of things, Nunez has flattered to deceive during his spell at Anfield despite his best efforts as his long-term future hangs in the balance.

However, he scored two absolutely invaluable goals in the Premier League title race and will look to use that as a springboard to perform consistently in the coming months.

Liverpool aren’t against selling Nunez in the summer, so the timing couldn’t have been better for the Uruguayan to prove his worth to the club between now and the end of the season.
