Liverpool supporters are known for having one of the most colourful songbooks in European football.

The Reds have had so many good players over the years that have just demanded they be sung about. And the Kop has obliged.

Over the Jurgen Klopp years, popular chants were coined for the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, most of which are still heartily sung at Anfield today.

For a player coming to Liverpool from elsewhere, supporters taking the time to create and popularise a chant is almost the biggest honour you can think of. It means you’re doing something right.

One man who has very much been doing something right – and then some – this season, is Luis Diaz.

And as Diaz continues to tear things up on the pitch, the sound of his song being chanted by supporters both at home and away has become a theme of the campaign.

Luis Diaz gives verdict on Liverpool song

Even if you don’t know the words to the Diaz song, you’ll have certainly heard it doing the rounds by now.

Set to the tune of Italian folk song Bella Ciao, it is an incredibly punchy and catchy little number that will stay in your head for hours.

Even without Diaz doing so well under Slot, the song is a good one to sing and really encourages participation.

But as the Colombian is now in the best form of his Liverpool career, it has understandably become a go-to for the Reds support.

And according to The Athletic, Diaz himself is a huge fan of hearing the tune being belted out.

The publication got in touch with Andy Hodgson, a Liverpool based musician who helped to create the song and spread it on social media.

According to Hodgson, he was on the receiving end of a personal call from Diaz himself, who thanked him for the support.

“I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I answered the video call,” he says. “I nearly dropped the phone. There was Lucho looking at me saying: 'I just want to say thank you so much for the song, much love'.”

How does the Luis Diaz song go?

There are two versions of the Diaz song to familiarise yourselves with. The first is a longer verse, which does not tend to be sung in full at matches.

“His name is Lucho, he came from Porto, he came to score, came to score, came to score, score, score,” goes the tune.

And then, for the meat of the chant, which every Liverpool fan will no doubt have been humming at some stage over the past few weeks.

“He's Luis Diaz, he's from Barrancas, now he plays for Liverpool! Na na na na na, na na na na na, na na na na, na na na, na na NA NA NA. “He's Luis Diaz, he's from Barrancas, now he plays for Liverpool!”

A great tribute to a player who is enjoying the time of his life.
