Liverpool have raced off the blocks under new manager Arne Slot and find themselves at the top of the Premier League standings.

The Dutchman hasn’t taken too much time to imprint his philosophy at the club and has also won each of his two UEFA Champions League games at Anfield so far.

Talks of winning the Premier League title might be a little premature given the new manager has only overseen ten games across all competitions, but Liverpool are expected to be up there fighting on all fronts come the end of the season.

A handful of their big players like Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk have continued to deliver consistent performances this season.

On the other hand, Ryan Gravenberch’s performances have emerged as a surprise as the midfielder was initially not expected to play such a huge role at the start of the season.

But Tony Cascarino feels Liverpool have a play who offers ‘something different’ under Slot.

Luis Diaz has been in sensational form for club and country this season and has made the left-wing spot his own despite the presence of Cody Gakpo, who has also impressed in his limited opportunities under Slot.

The Colombian was linked with a transfer this summer but it didn’t materialise as he remained at the club.

Cascarino feels Diaz’s fearless nature makes him unique as he expressed his happiness that he decided to stay at Liverpool.

"I was delighted when Liverpool kept him in the summer,” Cascarino said on talkSPORT (12/10/24, 08:56).

“When I heard rumours that he could be going out the door, I was like, ‘I don't know, I really want to keep him’.

“He is something different. He wants to attack full-backs, he will cut inside [and] he will go on the outside. He is fearless in the way he plays. I really want [Liverpool] to keep Diaz."

Diaz’s stats for Liverpool this season

The 27-year-old has scored five goals in all competitions for Liverpool this season, with all of them coming in the Premier League.

He was particularly unstoppable against Manchester United at Old Trafford as he scored a brace in Liverpool’s emphatic 3-0 win.

Diaz’s ability was never under question, but under Jurgen Klopp, he simply didn’t perform consistently enough to be regarded as one of the best players in the league in his position.

He has begun the new season in fine form and it remains to be seen if he can carry on the same vein in the coming months.
