Liverpool could pull off transfer 'masterstroke' after being recommended Barcelona star - opinion

Liverpool have yet to make a signing this January, with the current tide of the window suggesting that Arne Slot’s side could end the market without any new additions.
Despite Liverpool being linked strongly with Milos Kerkez and the Reds still monitoring Martin Zubimendi, the general vibe from supporters and pundits is that no new major additions will be made in the January transfer window.
Even with Jamie Carragher urging Liverpool to sign a defender and Real Madrid readying a new bid for Trent Alexander-Arnold, it would be quite a surprise if the Premier League and UEFA Champions League leaders were to make a new signing or two in the final few weeks of the winter market.
Yet Liverpool might have received some motivation to make an audacious move for one of FC Barcelona’s best players.
Liverpool should consider Jules Kounde swoop after scout suggestion
January signings might be unlikely this time around, but the summer will be a different beast entirely for Liverpool, especially with Alexander-Arnold on the way out and more key players like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk yet to sign new contracts.
And if Liverpool are to lose Alexander-Arnold and potentially Van Dijk, one player who could be signed to replace the pair is Barcelona star Jules Kounde, who scout Tor-Kristian Karlsen recently suggested for the Reds whilst writing for ESPN.
As per the former AS Monaco sporting director, signing Kounde would be a ‘masterstroke’ of a signing for Liverpool, with the French international one of the best right-backs and centre-backs in world football, two positions Slot will need to invest in this summer.
And with Barcelona’s financial situation once again reaching new lows, the La Liga giants could be tempted to sell Kounde to a Premier League side if a big enough offer comes in, something Liverpool could muster if they win the title and Champions League.
Could Kounde actually be a realistic signing for Liverpool?
Barcelona might be one of the most financially irresponsible sides in world football, yet one thing the Camp Nou giants aren’t too well-known for these days is their major sales, with Ousmane Dembele’s £45m move to PSG in 2023 the biggest exit the La Liga titans have made in the last six years.
Yet Liverpool moving for Kounde could change that, with the former Sevilla defender believed to be available for around £51m according to Sport, though this price tag could easily change heading into the summer.
Indeed, Liverpool need to be adventurous with their spending later this year, and signing Kounde to replace Alexander-Arnold and potentially Van Dijk would do just that, especially with the defender one of the best in the world.
