Liverpool earn millions in Champions League prize money after 2-1 win vs LOSC Lille
Today at 04:30 AM
Liverpool secured themselves a top-eight league phase finish with their 2-1 win over LOSC Lille at Anfield on Tuesday, which also earned the Reds millions in prize money.
The Merseyside squad are now guaranteed to progress straight into the round of 16 and not require a two-legged knockout round play-off tie. Goals by Mohamed Salah (34') and Harvey Elliott (67') on either side of Jonathan David's (62') goal saw Liverpool beat 10-man Lille 2-1.
Aissa Mandi put his Ligue 1 outfit at a disadvantage at Anfield with his 59th-minute red card. Defeat to the Premier League table-toppers also saw Lille drop out of the top-eight positions in the Champions League league phase standings with Les Dogues dropping down into 11th.
Liverpool, meanwhile, continue to head the table and only need one point at PSV Eindhoven on January 29 in their final tie to ensure they top the league phase table. Boss Arne Slot has overseen a perfect seven wins over seven Champions League ties since taking up their helm.
Ending the league phase in first place will not bank Liverpool any extra prize money, though, but their Champions League victory over Lille did earn the Reds millions. With that in mind, Rousing The Kop looks through the 2024/25 Champions League prize money for Liverpool…
Liverpool bank £39m in Champions League prize money with 2-1 win vs LOSC Lille
UEFA confirmed the breakdown of the prize money for the 2024/25 Champions League last March with a total pool of €2.467bn (£2.085bn). From that Liverpool earned themselves an equal share of €18.6m (£15.7m) of the €670m (£566.3m) set aside just for those to qualify.
But Liverpool's results through the league phase of the 24/25 Champions League have even earned the Merseyside natives further millions in prize money, and further millions are still on the cards. Liverpool are also the only club to have earned every penny available thus far.
UEFA will pay clubs an additional €2.1m (£1.7m) for each win they secure during the league phase, meaning Liverpool have so far banked €14.7m (£12.4m) with a perfect seven wins in seven ties. Draws in the Champions League league phase also see clubs get €700k (£592k).
Slot, then, could earn Liverpool a further €2.1m (£1.7m) if they beat PSV. Their win against Lille this Tuesday night, meanwhile, earned Liverpool €2m (£1.7m) for finishing the league phase in the top eight, rather than €1m (£845k) for those who finish in ninth to 16th place.
So, Liverpool's prize money for seven wins and their reward just for qualifying for the 24/25 Champions League has seen the Reds earn €35.3m (£29.8m) and counting over the league phase. The Anfield squad have also earned €11m (£9.3m) for qualifying for the round of 16.
What is the prize money in the Champions League knockout stages?
The €11m (£9.3m) that Liverpool earned in prize money for qualifying for the round of 16 is only a base sum that the Merseyside club could bank in the knockout stages of the 2024/25 Champions League, however. UEFA will hand out increasing fees for any further progression.
If Liverpool reach the Champions League quarter-finals, their €11m (£9.3m) bonus becomes €12.5m (£10.5m). Then should the Reds reach the semi-finals, the sum will increase further to €15m (£12.7m) and then to €18.5m (£15.6m) for the clubs who play in the final on May 31.

Semi-finals* | €15m* (£12.7m*) |
Final* | €18.5m* (£15.6m*) |
Winners bonus | €6.5m (£5.5m) |
Winning the 2024/25 Champions League – which could be the seventh in Liverpool's trophy cabinet – also returns a further €6.5m (£5.5m) in prize money, too. So, Liverpool could earn up to €62.4m (£52.7m) if they can win the 24/25 Champions League and also go unbeaten.
Even if they lose their final league phase tie at PSV, Liverpool could earn €60.3m (£50.9m) if they then go on to win the 24/25 Champions League. Winning UEFA's elite club competition this season would also bank Liverpool further millions by qualifying for the 2025 Super Cup.
