Vitezslav Jaros made his full debut for Liverpool as they secured a hard-fought 3-2 win against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Round of 16 of the Carabao Cup.
A second-half brace from Cody Gakpo and a late goal from Luis Diaz gave the Reds an away win, with Simon Adingra and Tariq Lamptey getting their names on the scoresheet for the hosts.
Jaros got his chance for the club in place of Caoimhin Kelleher, who was rested as he continues to deputise for Alisson Becker between the sticks.
The Czech goalkeeper made his debut for the club in the 1-0 Premier League win against Crystal Palace after Alisson picked up an injury, with Kelleher also missing that game owing to his own fitness concerns.
He was in the thick of the action against Brighton and Liverpool fans took to X to deliver their verdict on his performance.
Liverpool fans lavish praise on Vitezslav Jaros’s display vs Brighton
Jaros made a fantastic save one-on-one to deny Lamptey in the first half and topped it off with another top stop after the interval, this time against Adingra.
Liverpool fans feel they are blessed to have a great group of goalkeepers, with Kelleher also earning rave reviews for his performances this season.
One fan said, “We have Alisson, Kelleher, Marmadashvili and Jaros all contracted to Liverpool at the same time.” while another one jokingly added, “Jaros is better than Cech.”
There was still more praise for Jaros – particularly for his save against Adingra as a handful of fans described it as the ‘save of the season.’
One fan wrote, “Oh my God, what a save Jaros” while another one claimed he’s a better goalkeeper than Arsenal’s David Raya.
One Liverpool fan jokingly claimed the three best goalkeepers in the world all play for the club, with another one adding, “Jaros is solid but we all knew that.”
Jaros was eventually beaten by Adingra and Lamptey, but he couldn’t have done to prevent those goals, with Jarell Quansah putting Liverpool in a bad position for the first one and the second goal turning out to be a deflection.
Jaros’ stats vs Brighton
Jaros was praised by Arne Slot for his late cameo against Palace and did his reputation no harm with a fantastic showing at the Amex Stadium. His underlying numbers from the game are as follows:
- Five saves (four from inside the box)
- Two clearances
- One long ball completed
- Forty-seven touches
- 67% pass completion rate (24/38 passes completed)
Kelleher is set to return for the Premier League clash against the same opponents at Anfield, but Liverpool fans will be happy to know they have another young goalkeeper coming through the ranks.
