Liverpool started sluggishly against Brighton on Saturday having beaten the Seagulls in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

The Reds were much rotated again, with Arne Slot changing 10 players for the Premier League match.

Brighton started brightly, though, attacking Liverpool with intent during the opening exchanges.

Before too long that led to a goal for the Seagulls, Ferdi Kadioglu sweeping home an amazing finish at the Kop end.

Prior to that, Liverpool almost had a goal of their own and it was all down to Darwin Nunez.

The Reds No.9 picked up the ball in the centre-circle, flicked the ball over the Brighton midfielder’s head, before heading off on a wonderful solo run. Nunez eventually drew a smart save from Bart Verbruggen in the Brighton goal and Liverpool fans were quick to sound their appreciation online.

Liverpool fans rave about Darwin Nunez run

Kadioglu’s goal was not necessarily a surprise at Anfield. Brighton have now taken the lead in the last five Premier League games against Liverpool.

But before the disappointment of the strike, fans praised what they’d seen from Nunez.

“That was superb from Nunez!” wrote one supporter, with another claiming “Darwin Nunez [is] a one man attack.”

Others drew comparisons to former Liverpool No.9 Fernando Torres.

“Nunez out there lookin like prime torres [sic],” one fan commented. “Brilliant run from Nunez. Deserved a goal that,” said yet another.

“Damn good work from Nunez. Won the ball and made the keeper do his job,” said another supporter, while one commented “Brilliant work form Nunez there… deserved a goal.”

Some demanded more from Nunez “Love that from Nunez, more pls,” while “Nunez amazing stuff there,” was the verdict of someone else.

Liverpool not doing enough against Brighton

Nunez’s run aside, Liverpool were absolutely woeful during the opening half hour against Brighton.

The Uruguayan’s opportunity was really the only clear sight of goal the Reds had.

Meanwhile, the Seagulls could easily have had another. Georginio Rutter should have done better when put through one-on-one against Caoimhin Kelleher.

Much more is needed from Liverpool for the remainder of the game, or they’ll be left to rue what would be a really disappointing result.

This was superb from Nunez, but he has not done it agains since despite the pleas from supporters.
