Both team captains will wear the rainbow armband and laces in dedicated matches in ongoing support of the LGBTQIA+ cause.

The Rainbow Laces campaign from Stonewall will be in full effect for December, kicking off with the men's match on Sunday between Liverpool and Manchester City.

The club announced the continued commitment on Friday, confirming that both club captains will be wearing the rainbow armband in their dedicated fixtures, alongside program content, branded LEDs, ball plinths, handshake boards and more to promote inclusion and celebrate that football is for all.

The women's team will be supporting the campaign with their match on December 11 when they face Everton at St. Helen's Stadium, before their holiday break. Fans attending are encouraged to bring rainbow flags and will be able to celebrate the campaign with face painting, live music, and giveaways.

The LFC Foundation will also host a Rainbow Laces-themed football tournament, including local grassroots teams Mersey Marauders FC, Liverpool Trans & Enby FC and participants from LFC Foundation's LGBT+ adults football session.

"We are proud to once again be supporting Rainbow Laces through our club-wide Red Together initiative, which promotes equality, diversity and inclusion in everything we do," LFC's Director of Impact Rishi Jain told the club website.

"The Rainbow Laces campaign provides both a powerful and positive platform for the promotion of inclusion in football and more broadly in sport. We work hard throughout the year to ensure that everyone feels welcome at our club and encourage people to take part in or enjoy the sport we all love.

"Supporting positive dialogue and education continues to be an important focus for us alongside allyship, which plays a crucial role in driving the positive changes still needed to create a truly inclusive environment for all."

Earlier this year the club donated £15,000 from sales of it's Pride merchandise range to The Michael Causer Foundation and The Young Person's Advisory Service (YPAS) to support their important work with the LGBT+ community across Merseyside and the Liverpool City Region.

As we live in increasingly polarizing times, the club's continued commitment to the LGBT+ cause is a small but reliable thing that supports the foundations of the club and it's supporters. Liverpool fans are built on inclusion, and having the club itself show their support of that is one of the reasons we all love it. There will likely be some backlash to this campaign itself, judging by the comments their social media tends to get whenever the logos change to rainbow variants, but compassion is more important.
