A lot happened in LFC-related international action today.
Two pairs of Liverpool FC teammates faced off in international action yesterday.
Kostas Tsimikas and Andy Robertson met in the UEFA Nations League, as Greece hosted Scotland in a League A/B play-off first leg. Robbo and the Scots came out on top, as he captained the visitors to a 1-0 win in Piraeus.
In South America, Alisson Becker and Brazil took on Luis Diaz and Colombia in Brasilia. The Selecao took the lead in the sixth minute through a Raphinha penalty, only for Diaz to equalise via a 41st-minute strike. In our first injury worry for this break, Alisson Becker was involved in a clash of heads and had to go off injured in the 78th minute, with fears of a concussion. Vinicius Jr would score with a fiercely struck shot deflecting off a defender's head in stoppage time. Brazil now sit second in the CONMEBOL Qualifying group, behind Argentina, who they will play on 25 March. Colombia sit in sixth.
Also, in the UEFA Nations League, the Netherlands took on Spain in Rotterdam in the League A quarter-final. Virgil van Dijk captained the Dutch, and Cody Gakpo netted a first-half equaliser as the game finished 2-2, with Spain netting an equaliser in injury time.
Wataru Endo also captained Japan to a 2-0 home victory over Bahrain in World Cup Qualification. This result clinched the Samurai Blue's qualification to next year's World Cup, becoming the first nation to do so.
In our other injury scare, Ibrahima Konate was substituted at half-time of France's 2-0 loss to Croatia in the first leg of their League A quarter-final. He looked like he had picked up a knock.
Dominik Szoboszlai and Hungary were defeated 3-1 by Turkiye in leg one of their Nations League A/B play-off.
Last but not least, Caoimhin Kelleherwas in goal for the Republic of Ireland as they beat Bulgaria 2-1 away in the first leg of their League B/C play-off.
