Liverpool FC's young midfielder James McConnell has returned to training after being seen alongside Harvey Elliott in a U21 training session.
After a standout season under Jürgen Klopp last season, McConnell has been sidelined this campaign for months due to an ankle injury that halted his progress and stalled a possible loan move. McConnell was widely expected to continue his development with a loan spell at a Championship club. Hull, Blackburn, Derby, Huddersfield, and Birmingham were all interested, but the ankle injury stopped all of those plans.

McConnell's next few weeks will likely be focused on building match fitness and gradually working his way back into competitive action. He will probably return to youth-level competition initially, aiming to regain his rhythm and adapt to Arne Slot's tactical framework. With competition for midfield spots in the first-team intense at the moment, McConnell will have to hit top form quickly if he is to earn any first-team opportunities.
