Liverpool have managed 11 wins from Arne Slot’s first 13 games in charge, with the Anfield side looking noticeably better in defence.

The Reds have conceded just seven goals in all competitions with Kostas Tsimikas sharing that Slot’s defensive tactics have helped Liverpool massively this season, with the Merseyside giants sat second in the Premier League after last weekend’s results.

Although Virgil van Dijk was criticised by Gary Neville against Arsenal, Liverpool’s backline has been as watertight as it has ever been in recent years, with Slot’s changes getting the best out of the defence at long last.

And Martin Keown believes one Liverpool defender has improved massively because of the changes.

Trent Alexander-Arnold praised after improved Liverpool form

Speaking to BBC Sport, the former Arsenal defender shared how improved Trent Alexander-Arnold looks this season for Liverpool, with the England international looking in top form for Slot this campaign at right-back.

Although Real Madrid are confident they will sign Alexander-Arnold next year, the 26-year-old’s final year at Liverpool could be one to remember if the Reds go all the way in the Premier League and compete in the UEFA Champions League.

And Keown has been impressed with Alexander-Arnold’s development, with the pundit saying: “Trent Alexander-Arnold has been more aware this season. He is not pushing forward so much and in one-on-one situations he is much better.

“He is getting out to his opponent much quicker, and doing that means you can tackle off the first touch instead of them running at you. He is now doing both parts of the full-back role and using the talent that he has.”

How good has Alexander-Arnold actually been this season?

Alexander-Arnold has been one of Liverpool’s most consistent players this season, with the defender showing why he’s one of the best fullbacks in the world and someone who the Reds should be looking to keep hold of.

And as per his stats for this season, Alexander-Arnold’s consistency is across the entire the pitch, with the right-back flourishing both defensively and offensively for Liverpool, even though the defender’s assist numbers are down compared to other seasons.

Indeed, Alexander-Arnold is enjoying some of the best football of his career this season at Liverpool, and the Reds should be doing all they can to ensure that the fullback remains at Anfield beyond 2025.
