'My information': Fabrizio Romano clears up what's really going on with Luis Diaz and a move to Arsenal

Liverpool could be set for an almighty shake-up within their forward line this summer.
The Reds are comfortably the Premier League’s top scorers this term and have clearly not struggled to find the back of the net.
However, with Mohamed Salah having scored 27 times – and laid on 17 more – there is a clear overreliance on the Egyptian King. Liverpool need more from their other options.
After Salah’s 27, the Liverpool player to score the joint second most in the Premier League is Luis Diaz, who has notched nine.
With just one goal in his past 18 appearances for the Reds, though, there has been recent speculation over Diaz’s immediate future.
And with Arsenal emerging as surprise contenders to sign the Colombian, journalist Fabrizio Romano has weighed in on where Diaz could end up.
No concrete Arsenal interest in Luis Diaz
Diaz had a really strong international break this March, scoring in back-to-back games for Colombia. How he could now do with translating that goal-scoring form to Anfield.
Even if he manages that, though, Romano has claimed that the Liverpool No.7 could well be on his way this summer.
“My information at the moment is that there is nothing advanced or concrete in terms of new contract talks at Liverpool,” the transfer expert revealed to the Daily Briefing on Sunday.
“My information is that already in January there was some interest from the Saudi Pro League, with clubs approaching Diaz.”

“He wanted to stay at the club and Liverpool didn't want to change the squad at that moment, so nothing happened,” Romano adds. “But there is already interest from several clubs around Europe in Diaz and also abroad. There's interest from Saudi, as mentioned, but he's also appreciated by some people at Barcelona.”
The journalist also threw Arsenal into the mix, but admitted that there was ‘nothing to report’ on that just now.
“I have nothing to report on the links with Arsenal,” he said. “But let's see between now and the end of the season what happens with the Colombian winger.”
Strong chance Luis Diaz leaves Liverpool
While this does not sound especially promising for those willing Diaz to stay at Liverpool beyond this summer, Romano added what sounded a bit like a final nail in the coffin, too.
Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
2021/22 | 26 | 6 | 4 |
2022/23 | 21 | 5 | 2 |
2023/24 | 51 | 13 | 5 |
2024/25 | 42 | 13 | 4 |
“It's still early in this story, but in general there is a feeling that Diaz, as well as Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez, could be leaving Anfield in the summer transfer window,” he said.
“It's not guaranteed yet, but it's a strong possibility and one to watch.”
If Diaz does leave, he will surely need replacing. Cody Gakpo may emerge as the natural starter on the left side, but it’s already clear that Arne Slot wants two players competing for that position.
Recent reports have suggested that Liverpool could return for Anthony Gordon if Diaz is sold and with a space free within the squad, that would certainly become one to keep an eye on.
