'Need to learn': Liverpool player speaks out on poor form after claims Arne Slot thinks he's going backwards
Today at 03:00 PM
Last season it looked like Jarell Quansah would have a huge impact at Liverpool throughout the 2024/25 campaign.
The centre-back was given the chance to shine by Jurgen Klopp after the German coach handed him his debut and the 21-year-old grabbed that opportunity with both hands.
The youngster would feature 33 times for Klopp throughout the 2023/24 campaign with the legendary manager describing Quansah as "super-important" to the future of Liverpool.
This raised the bar for the centre-back heading in this term and after a positive pre-season, things quickly turned sour for the defender as Quansah was hooked off in Liverpool’s Ipswich win on the opening weekend of the current campaign.
The centre-back did not receive a single second of action in the following 11 Premier League games with Arne Slot believing Quansah is going backwards at Anfield.
The 21-year-old is aware of how his season is going and has admitted that he is still in the process of learning.

Jarell Quansah names ‘harshest critic’ at Liverpool
Quansah has already shown at Liverpool that he has the ability to be a success story on Merseyside despite his recent run of form.
The Reds’ captain Virgil van Dijk has described Quansah as a “fantastic player” and the Dutch star is the perfect role model for the 21-year-old to learn from.
Liverpool fans will be pleased to know that the youngster is aware of his flaws and that he still has a lot to learn with the Englishman admitting that he is his own “harshest critic”.
“I just know I need to learn. It is going to be a long career for myself hopefully,” Quansah has told the Liverpool Echo.
“Try to keep level, don't let the highs be too high and don't get too low with the lows. Temperament is the most important thing for me or a young centre-back. [I] learn off the players around me.”
Quansah continued by saying: “I am not going to sit here and say it's easy. It is always tough. But it is all about how you prepare, putting yourself in the best mind frame and physical condition. It is not easy when you are not in the team but you need to do everything you can for the team. Keep pushing.
“I have not changed anything. I am always looking at my game whether I play good or bad. I am not going to be the finished article yet.
“I am my harshest critic, I have always said that. But whether I play good or bad, I will criticise myself. When I play my best games, that is probably when I have been the harshest on myself.”
Slot trusted Quansah at the heart of his defence during Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Lille on Tuesday and with the 21-year-old solid throughout, the display could springboard his season.
Jarell Quansah has a big future at Liverpool
When it comes to views on football, Jurgen Klopp’s will be right more often than not and the legendary Reds boss had a lot of faith in Quansah.
Young player go through periods of uncertainty and bad form, therefore, it is normal for the Reds defender to be feeling the way he does.
The 21-year-old is learning from the best in Van Dijk and it will be a huge benefit to his career should the Liverpool captain remain at Anfield for many more years.
Once the 33-year-old departs, that is when Quansah could take over and a partnership with Ibrahima Konate will be something for Premier League strikers to fear.
