'Never': Arne Slot admits he's about to do something for the first time ever as a head coach tomorrow
Today at 10:00 AM
Liverpool and Accrington Stanley are set to lock horns in the FA Cup tomorrow as Arne Slot aims to take charge of his first game in the competition.
The Reds have lost just twice since the Dutchman replaced Jurgen Klopp at the helm and will look to spearhead his side to a routine victory.
Liverpool are reeling from their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal and will look to return to winning ways tomorrow.
And Slot feels he is set to do something for the first time as a manager tomorrow as the League Two side prepare to visit Anfield.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot makes honest admission on facing a lower-league side
Over the years, we’ve seen a handful of ties between Premier League sides and teams in the lower tiers of English football, which highlights the magic of the cup competitions.
Liverpool faced West Ham United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Southampton and Tottenham in the Carabao Cup so far, while they are set to play their first FA Cup game of the season tomorrow.
Ahead of the game against Accrington, Slot admitted in his press conference that this is the first time he’s set to face a team from the lower tier, adding that he never got the opportunity to do so in the Netherlands.
“When I was at Feyenoord, I always said I was unlucky with the draw,” said Slot in his pre-match press conference.
“Every time we have a difficult one so we play the teams in the same league when other teams had an amateur club which can happen in Holland, so I have never really played lower league club in Holland in 3/4 years.”
Liverpool team news for Accrington clash
Slot confirmed that Dominik Szoboszlai and Jarel Quansah trained for Liverpool after they recovered from illness, although it remains to be seen if they feature tomorrow.
Most of the big guns are expected to be rested, so the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Alexis Mac Allister may not even feature in the matchday squad.
Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha were part of the squad to face Southampton and that could well be the case again, while the likes of Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa are expected to earn rare starts.
Slot is expected to make a raft of changes to his squad, so it’ll be interesting to see how Liverpool lineup tomorrow.
