'Not capable': Steve Nicol states whether Liverpool are Premier League title favourites after Forest draw

Liverpool dropped two valuable points in the Premier League title race as they were held to a 1-1 draw away from home against Nottingham Forest.

The Reds fought tooth and nail for a point against Nuno Espirito Santo’s high-flying side and scored an equaliser through Diogo Jota in the second half after Chris Wood had given the home side an early lead.

Liverpool are now six points clear of second-placed Forest with a game in hand, but their gap at the top could be reduced to four if Arsenal beat Tottenham Hotspur later today.

And Steve Nicol made an interesting claim on his former team’s Premier League title hopes as they aim to get their hands on the trophy for the first time since 2020.

Liverpool lost the reserve fixture 1-0 as Callum Hudson-Odoi scored a late goal to silence the Anfield crowd back in September.

However, since then, they are unbeaten in the Premier League but struggled against Forest once again, particularly in the second half.

Nuno’s direct brand of football was a thorn in the flesh of Liverpool as they gave the league leaders a run for their money with their counterattacking excellence.

However, Jota came off the bench to rescue a point for his side as they endured they didn’t lose for the second time this season vs Forest.

And Nicol believes the likes of Arsenal and Forest are not good enough to win ten games on the trot to give Liverpool a run for their money in the Premier League title race, due to which he believes his former team are still favourites.

"When you don't get the points you deserve after dominating the way they did, they'd have expected to win the game,” said Nicol on ESPN FC’s YouTube channel.

“I'm not confident Arsenal are going to go on a ten or 11-game winning streak. I'm not confident Forest are going to continue to win playing the way they do.

“The rest are just too far behind, so figure that one out whether I'm confident coz of Liverpool and because the rest are not capable."

What next for Liverpool?

Liverpool travel to Brentford on Saturday for another tricky Premier League away game, after which they face Ipswich Town at Anfield before taking on Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

All three teams represent their own challenges, but the Reds have won just three of their last seven Premier League games and need nine points from their next three to give themselves some breathing space at the top.

Clinton Morrison believes Liverpool are still Premier League title favourites, but with other teams breathing down their next, they need to be wary of the threat posed by their competitors and start racking up some wins.
