Player becomes "serious issue" for Liverpool in Salah replacement hunt – New name added to mix

Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sané is on Liverpool's list as a potential Mohamed Salah replacement if he leaves next summer.

That's according to journalist Christian Falk, who has told BILD that the German is on Liverpool's list and a 'serious issue' at Anfield.

Liverpool are known to be actively scouring the market for potential replacements for Salah at this moment in time, with it unknown whether he'll be staying at Anfield beyond the summer.

The Reds have now officially opened contract talks with the Egyptian to extend his stay beyond next year but whether they end positively for all parties, who appear to want the same thing, remains to be seen.

Finding a replacement for the Egyptian will be no easy task given he continues to shine under Arne Slot, with the 32-year-old's goal in the Champions League this week taking him to 16 goals and 12 assists in 22 games in all competitions this season.

He's very much a superstar, Premier League icon and Liverpool legend at this point and according to Falk, that's seen Liverpool look at experienced players not up and coming stars as potential replacements. And that, in turn, has seen them turn their attention to Bayern Munich.

"Superstar and living in Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah is currently not leaving a TV camera untouched to complain that FC Liverpool haven’t made an offer for a new contract yet," he told BILD's Englische Woche.

"His contract expires in the summer and Liverpool are actually already looking for a follow-up. Omar Marmoush has already been a hot topic at Liverpool as an Egyptian for an Egyptian as a follow-up, but now it’s clear that Leroy Sané is a serious issue at Liverpool.

"I’ve heard that Liverpool are looking for a player with experience, so a talent who could immediately follow in the footsteps of Salah, and Leroy Sané has already been introduced.

"You think he could do it, but nothing has happened at Bayern at the moment. No deal, no offer from Bayern. Leroy Sané would expect a €3-5m discount on money in Bavaria, but first they want to wait until the new year. They’re waiting, nothing will happen before Christmas, that’s why Liverpool are in a tight spot."
