The January transfer window is now open and it remains to be seen if Liverpool add to their squad midway through the season.

The Reds stuck to their guns in the summer and refrained from splashing the cash, with Federico Chiesa the only player who walked through the door at Anfield.

Adding to the squad in the middle of the season could be a difficult task, but Arne Slot will undoubtedly use the summer transfer window to fine-tune the current crop.

Reports from Germany claimed Liverpool are interested in signing Joshua Kimmich on a free transfer from Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

And now, the Bavarian giants have responded by signaling their desire to sign an out-of-contract star from Anfield.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future has been the talk of the town in recent months, with the Liverpool’s vice captain’s current deal at Anfield set to expire at the end of the season.

The Reds are keen to keep him, but Real Madrid want to sign Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer if they fail to get him in January, having already made an approach to sign him.

Yesterday, it was reported that Liverpool are looking to complete a free transfer of their own, with Christian Falk confirming that the Reds are in the running to sign Kimmich at the end of the season.

And now, Bayern Munich have retaliated by declaring interest in Alexander-Arnold, with German publication Kicker confirming their desire to sign the England international.

The Bavarians want to add a new right-back to their squad as Kimmich’s contract runs out in the summer, while Sasha Boey has struggled with injuries since joining the club last January.

The report also states that Bayern are aware that Real Madrid are leading the race Alexander-Arnold, so it remains to be seen how the saga transpires.

Liverpool still in talks to renew Alexander-Arnold’s contract

Liverpool have already offered Alexander-Arnold a new contract, but so far, he hasn’t signed on the dotted line, raising the possibility of a departure.

Chris Sutton referred to Alexander-Arnold as a ‘brilliant’ player, but the 26-year-old has a decision to make as clubs queue up to secure his signature.

The Reds will do everything they can to keep him, but with two European giants in the running to secure his signature, will they manage to do so? Time will tell.
