Alexander Isak is one of the most in-demand football players on the planet, with Liverpool one of the clubs interested in signing the striker.

The Newcastle United superstar has been in sensational form this season, with Isak firing the Magpies to their first domestic title in 70 years earlier this month against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final having already scored 23 goals in all competitions.

As a result of the Swedish international’s form, Isak is wanted by Liverpool to become their new talisman in the attack, with Darwin Nunez expected to leave Anfield with Mohamed Salah’s future on Merseyside also up in the air.

And Newcastle have now made a decision regarding Isak’s contract that could give Liverpool a boost in their bid to sign the striker.

Newcastle pause Alexander Isak contract talks amid Liverpool interest

According to CaughtOffside, talks between Newcastle and Isak over a new contract have been put on pause for the time being, with the Magpies now set to reassess their next move with the striker amid interest from Liverpool.

Currently valued at £150m, Liverpool still face quite the challenge to sign Isak this summer, with Newcastle likely to demand a Premier League record fee for the former Real Sociedad striker after such a prolific season.

However, Newcastle’s decision to pause contract talks with Isak could hint towards the Magpies preparing to lose the attacker during the off-season, with Liverpool a likely destination for the Scandinavian superstar.

Indeed, whether or not this tactic from Newcastle is the beginning of Isak’s departure from Tyneside is still up for debate, yet with Liverpool as interested as they are in the attacker, the Reds need to see this development as a positive heading into the transfer window.

Liverpool have to make the most of Newcastle’s Alexander Isak decision

Newcastle taking a step back from contract talks with Isak is surprised, to say the least, with the forward one of the most valuable assets to any club in the Premier League this season.

Yet for Liverpool, Newcastle’s decision is one that has to wake the Reds up and to inspire them to make a move for the striker, who could be the final piece of the attacking puzzle for Slot should Salah remain on Merseyside.

Isak has proven this season that he is one of the best strikers in the world, and Liverpool will have to ensure that they win the race for the Swedish international this summer, even if it comes at a big price.
