Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold is worryingly entering the final stages of his contract at Anfield.

Jason Cundy cannot believe Alexander-Arnold's treatment at Liverpool, with the academy graduate potentially leaving on a free transfer next summer.

The right-back's current contract will expire at the end of the season, along with those of fellow Liverpool stars Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

Real Madrid are keeping tabs on Alexander-Arnold, who has been a key figure under Arne Slot so far this season.

But the Anfield faithful will be fearing the worst about their talented right-back as the season continues with no new deal agreed upon.

And according to Sport, Real Madrid could now make a move for Alexander-Arnold in the January transfer window in order to fill the gap left by Carvajal, as opposed to waiting until the summer.

Latest Trent Alexander-Arnold twist is mixed news for Liverpool

Losing Alexander-Arnold is unthinkable for Liverpool fans, who have watched the player grow from an academy prospect into a first-team regular.

He is played a key role in the club's fantastic start to the season under Slot, with the defender shining at both ends of the pitch.

But that could all be lost should Real Madrid make their move in the upcoming transfer window, with the Spanish giants certain to be difficult to turn down from the player's perspective.

And while it would be a massive blow for the Reds, it does represent a chance to make a huge profit on the England international.

Such a profit would not be available if Real Madrid were to wait until the summer to sign the right-back, who could unimaginably leave on a free transfer.
