Report: Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool 'obsession' has been made available, he could replace Wataru Endo
Today at 01:00 AM
The number six position at Liverpool is an area of the pitch Arne Slot is keen to address in 2025 despite the recent form of Ryan Gravenberch.
The Dutch star has been exceptional for the Reds this season and has featured in every Premier League and Champions League game for the Merseyside club, which highlights his importance.
Having joined Liverpool during the summer of 2023 from Bayern Munich, Gravenberch struggled under Jurgen Klopp, however, Slot’s decision to move the Netherlands star into the number six role at Anfield has brought the best out of the 22-year-old.
Ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi was Liverpool’s top target and had the Spanish star joined the Premier League leaders, things might look different for Slot’s team this season.
The Merseyside club are still keen to add to the position ahead of the 2025/26 campaign and the situation of a big-name star at Real Madrid may provide Liverpool with an opportunity this summer.

Real Madrid open to Aurelien Tchouameni sale
During the summer of 2022, Tchouameni was a player Jurgen Klopp was obsessed with as Liverpool made multiple bids in an attempt to lure the French star to Anfield from AS Monaco, only for the midfielder to move to Real Madrid as part of a £70m deal.
The 24-year-old has since become a key player for Carlo Ancelotti at the Bernabeu with the France international going on to feature 112 times for the La Liga champions.
Tchouameni has helped aid Real Madrid’s injury woes in defence throughout the first half of the current campaign as the midfielder has stepped in at centre-back in the absence of David Alaba and Eder Militao.
Despite his importance, The Mirror reports that Real Madrid are open to selling Tchouameni this summer should a suitable offer arrive for the French star.
The 22-year-old is said to be “unhappy” in Spain as he believes he has become the scapegoat for Madrid’s struggles at times this season.
The uncertainty around the midfielder may hand Liverpool an opportunity this summer as Wataru Endo is not guaranteed to be at Anfield next season.
Aurelien Tchouameni could replace Wataru Endo at Liverpool
Endo was handed plenty of opportunities to impress at Liverpool last season under Jurgen Klopp but the Japanese star has not been granted the same minutes at Anfield since the arrival of Slot.
The 31-year-old has racked up just 433 minutes of action so far during the current campaign and it is being reported that Endo is unhappy with his current situation at Liverpool.
The Japan international will likely leave the Reds during the summer and the arrival of Tchouameni would be a major upgrade on the veteran midfielder.
What that means for Gravenberch remains uncertain as the current form of the Dutch star could see Slot opt for a younger star to provide cover for the 22-year-old.
