Virgil van Dijk is one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever defenders, which is why the Dutch international potentially leaving next summer would come across as a huge blow.

The 33-year-old centre-back’s contract is due to expire at the end of this season with Van Dijk already attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, with Mohamed Salah also drawing eyeballs from the Middle Eastern state.

With Van Dijk the captain at Anfield, replacing the defender will be an enormous task for the Reds, with Liverpool now linked with Sevilla star Loic Bade as a potential replacement for the former Southampton centre-back.

And Liverpool now have another name on their list of possible Van Dijk replacements.

Goncalo Inacio eyed as potential Van Dijk replacement at Liverpool

According to El Mira, Sporting Lisbon defender and Portugal international Goncalo Inacio is being lined up as a potential option for Liverpool if Van Dijk were to leave Merseyside at the end of this season.

The £38m-rated centre-back has been linked with Liverpool for quite some time, with Inacio viewed as one of the best defenders in Europe outside the top-five leagues and a key reason behind Sporting’s success in recent years.

Noted as an 'amazing', Inacio is more than ready for a big move in 2025, with the Premier League an ideal destination for the defensive talent as Liverpool look to once again reignite their interest in the Sporting star.

And with Van Dijk potentially leaving Liverpool, Inacio could be the ideal option for the Reds to fill in for the Dutch international, with the Portuguese youngster having all the tools needed to thrive at Anfield under Arne Slot.

Inacio would jump at the chance to join Liverpool next year

Inacio has been rumoured with a move to the Premier League for the past two years, with the defender hotly-tipped to become the latest star from the Portuguese top-flight to move to England and to become a hit.

And if Liverpool were to come in for Inacio, the Sporting defender would jump at the chance to sign for the Reds, with the Portugal international more than ready for a move to one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Indeed, Liverpool might have to shell out a big fee to sign Inacio, but given who the Anfield side are potentially replacing, every penny counts if it’s being spent on the right player, something the Sporting defender could be if the deal was to go through.
