The January transfer window is well underway, but judging by how things have gone so far, Liverpool are only likely to do business in the summer.

The Reds were linked with a move for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia this month, but the Georgian international officially sealed a big-money transfer to PSG yesterday.

Arne Slot will undoubtedly look to fine-tune his squad in the upcoming transfer windows, but with time running out in January, the Anfield faithful might have to wait until the summer to see new faces at the club.

And if reports from Germany are to be believed, Liverpool have made a move to sign one of the most durable and experienced players in world football.

The Reds have a squad with the right blend of youth and experience, but they need another player in midfield as Ryan Gravenberch has played an awful lot of football this season.

Additionally, with Trent Alexander-Arnold wanted by Real Madrid, they could be in the market for a right-back if the Liverpool vice-captain bids goodbye to the club in the summer.

Joshua Kimmich has been linked with a move to Anfield as his contract with Bayern Munich runs out at the end of the season.

The Bavarian giants are in talks to renew his contract, but if reports from TZ are to be believed, Liverpool have held initial and informal talks with him over a transfer in the summer.

The report credits the Reds with an interest in Alphonso Davies while also confirming that ‘nothing concrete’ is going on between the club and Kimmich over a transfer currently.

Kimmich’s versatility a big plus

Kimmich has been described as a ‘serious player’ by Pep Guardiola and his ability to play right-back and in midfield could prove to be invaluable to Liverpool.

He has also missed just 17 games through injury in his club career so far, which is a staggering record for a player who has been a mainstay for both Bayern Munich and Germany over the past decade.

Kimmich is one of the most experienced players in world football and could be a shrewd signing for Liverpool if they manage to pull it off.
