Liverpool have three superstar players potentially leaving next summer in Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

The Anfield trio are all currently slated to leave the Reds as free agents with all three players having their contracts expire at the end of this season, a situation Liverpool are yet to resolve despite the summer transfer window closing nearly a month ago.

Whilst Salah remains strongly linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, there is hope that the likes of Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk could stay on Merseyside given their huge significance for Liverpool on and off the pitch.

Yet that hasn’t stopped Liverpool from keeping tabs on a player who could potentially replace Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool monitoring Juanlu Sanchez as Alexander-Arnold replacement

According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool are one of many Premier League teams keeping tabs on Sevilla right-back Juanlu Sanchez, with the 21-year-old regarded as one of the most exciting talents in La Liga.

Noted by AS as a ‘brilliant’ defender, Sanchez has this season made the surprise switch from right-back to central midfield, where the Spanish youth international has been exceptional for Sevilla in a new-look system.

And for Liverpool, it makes sense why Sanchez is now being eyed as a potential replacement for Alexander-Arnold, especially with the defender now playing in central midfield having made a name for himself at fullback.

Indeed, Sanchez’s €25m (£20m) asking price could also tempt Liverpool to make a move for the youngster in 2025, with Alexander-Arnold’s future up in the air amid ongoing interest from Real Madrid.

Sanchez fits Alexander-Arnold shaped hole that Liverpool could need to fill

Replacing Alexander-Arnold will be no mean feat for Liverpool if the defender decides to leave Anfield at the end of this season, yet Sanchez could be an ideal replacement for the Reds if such an event was to happen.

The 21-year-old is an exciting talent who already has the versatility to do what Alexander-Arnold does in this Liverpool system under Arne Slot, with Sanchez well on his way to becoming Spain’s future starting right-back.

And although the defender’s passing is nowhere near as good as Alexander-Arnold’s, Sanchez makes up for this in his tactical flexibility and understanding of numerous positions, something that could be helpful at a club like Liverpool in the years to come.
