Liverpool are expected to be active in the upcoming transfer window as Arne Slot aims to bolster his ranks.
After signing just Federico Chiesa in the summer transfer window, the Reds won’t be short of funds, although it remains to be seen which areas of the pitch they reinforce.
Midfield was clearly an area of concern in the summer as they scoured the transfer market for a new number six.
However, Slot has opted to use Ryan Gravenberch in that position after Martin Zubimendi rejected a move to Anfield.
Now, it appears as if a young midfielder is on Liverpool’s radar with one eye on the future.
Liverpool need to pay £25m to sign Chris Rigg from Sunderland
Chris Rigg is one of the most exciting midfielders in the Championship and is making a big name for himself this season.
He might be just 17, but his performances are proof that his maturity belies his age as the Black Cats find themselves at the top of the Championship table.
According to a report from Caught Offside, Liverpool are keen on Rigg, who is valued at around £25m by Sunderland and has a contract at the club until 2027.
The likes of Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Brighton, Man City, Newcastle, Man United and Wolves are also interested in the young Englishman, who is also attracting interest from abroad.
Liverpool’s interest in Rigg was first reported earlier this season, although it was also mentioned that a move to Anfield would come too soon for the youngster at this stage of his career.
Chris Rigg hailed as a ‘special’ talent by Tony Mowbray
Rigg made his full Sunderland debut aged 15 almost 18 months ago and has continued his development with a string of eye-catching displays.
Former Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray hailed him as a ‘special talent’ (via SI) as he scored two Championship goals last season.
This season, he has already found the back of the net three times in 13 games under new manager Regis Le Bris' and will look to carry on in the same vein to spearhead his side to the Premier League.
