Liverpool emerged as 1-0 victors against Crystal Palace in a game that fans and pundits would describe as scrappy.

Diogo Jota’s early goal was all it took for the Reds to secure the three points as Alisson Becker and Alexis Mac Allister were injured for Liverpool, with the Anfield side hopeful that the South American duo will be fit to face Chelsea after the international break.

Having played UEFA Champions League football midweek, Arne Slot did change up the XI with Kostas Tsimikas coming in for Andy Robertson, with the Greek international winning praise from Michael Owen for his performance.

Yet the £12m left-back did frustrate Virgil van Dijk during one moment in the match.

Van Dijk scolded Kostas Tsimikas for early defensive error

As reported by the Liverpool Echo, Van Dijk was left fuming with Tsimikas after the defender allowed Daniel Munoz was allowed to cross the ball early on for Palace, with the Liverpool captain having to deal with the danger before scalding his teammate.

The message seemed to have got through to Tsimikas, though, with the 28-year-old fullback sorting his act out fairly quickly after the minor incident with the Greek international keeping a tight ship down the left for Liverpool.

Indeed, Tsimikas has played quite a bit of football this season under Arne Slot with Robertson still dealing with fitness issues, with the former Olympiakos star making seven appearances in all competitions for Liverpool

And after a good display this weekend against Palace even after being told off by Van Dijk, there’s a good chance that Tsimikas will play even more once the Premier League is back, especially with Robertsons struggling to keep fit.

Tsimikas is proving his worth at Liverpool this season

Tsimikas has always been backup for Robertson since joining Liverpool, yet this season in just a handful of games under Slot, the Greek defender is really showing why he is a valued player on Merseyside.

With over 300 minutes played already this season, Tsimikas is becoming a trusted player for Slot to turn to if Robertson is unavailable or in need of a rest, with the Liverpool no. 21 impressing under his new manager.

And this season could turn out to be the best one yet for Tsimikas, a prospect that will excite Liverpool fans given how beloved the Greek international already is at Anfield
