Rio Ngumoha made history this weekend as the teenager became the youngest player ever to start a match for Liverpool.

The 16-year-old winger was named in the starting XI as Ngumoha got his first taste of senior football with the Reds against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup, with the England youth international starting ahead of Federico Chiesa, who missed training this week due to illness.

With Robbie Fowler impressed with what he saw from Ngumoha against the League Two side, Ngumoha’s record-breaking appearance certainly caught the eye of the right people at Liverpool, with the forward looking dangerous and lively.

Yet for Liverpool staff, the 16-year-old’s performance might not have been too big a surprise.

Ngumoha’s attitude ‘immediately’ impressed Liverpool staff after joining

According to the Athletic, Liverpool staff were ‘immediately’ impressed with Ngumoha’s attitude, with the forward quickly rising through the youth tanks before being handed the chance to train with the Reds’ first-team.

And Arne Slot and company appear to be big fans of Ngumoha, with the Dutch manager entrusting the forward with a starting XI spot against Accrington Stanley and in doing so becoming the youngest starter in Liverpool’s history.

Indeed, fellow academy star Jayden Danns was also impressed with what he saw from Ngumoha against Accrington Stanley, with the record-breaking attacker showing why he’s as highly-rated as he is and why Liverpool went out of their way to secure the forward’s signature.

And for Slot, the Liverpool manager now has a prospect who could be part of his first-team plans for many years to come, with Ngumoha’s stock at an all-time high after an impressive debut in the FA Cup.

Ngumoha could save Liverpool millions in the future

Ngumoha’s performance was one that got Liverpool fans off their feet, with the teenager looking like an experienced veteran against Accrington Stanley as the forward tormented the League Two side down the left-wing.

And for the Reds, Ngumoha could save the club millions in the future as a potential starter in the attack, with Ben Doak another player who Slot could turn to in the Dutchman’s bid to build the next generation of Liverpool.

The former Chelsea academy star has enjoyed a perfect opening six months with Liverpool, and after Ngumoha’s debut, the winger will be keen to build from his historic performance at Anfield with more appearances in the coming weeks.
