Report: Why Liverpool may be forced to pick between Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez this summer after new update

Liverpool head into the summer transfer window looking to recruit for several positions.
Before the international break, the Reds struggled to put the ball into the back of the net when Mohamed Salah had two off days against PSG and Newcastle, which has made Arne Slot even more aware that he is in need of a new striker.
Alexander Isak is Liverpool’s top target and with Darwin Nunez pushing for an Anfield exit, the Uruguayan will help fund the signing of the Newcastle star.
That position should take care of itself as Liverpool are also in the market for a new centre-back and a left-back, as Andy Robertson has struggled at Anfield this season.
Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez has been tipped to replace the Scottish defender on Merseyside and when it comes to acquiring a new centre-back, Dean Huijsen is also on Liverpool’s list, and the Premier League leaders may now have to pick between the duo.

Liverpool will have to choose between Milos Kerkez and Dean Huijsen
Kerkez has been linked to Liverpool for several weeks now and Bournemouth are set to demand at least £40m for his exit this summer. The Hungarian star is one of the Reds’ top targets for the left-back role and having impressed with the Cherries this season, it would be a big coup.
Justin Kluivert has hinted that Huijsen will leave Bournemouth at the end of the season and Liverpool are among the clubs showing interest in the 19-year-old talent, as the youngster has an attractive £50m release clause in his current contract.
A new report from The Telegraph has dealt Liverpool a blow in their pursuit of both as it states that Bournemouth will not sell more than one or two of their prize assets this summer.
“There is also strong interest in 21-year-old Milos Kerkez, Antoine Semenyo and Justin Kluivert (both 25), but there is no way Bournemouth will sell more than one or two of their prize assets in a season,” Jason Burt writes. “And even then it will only be on their terms; when they are ready and with a significant profit.”
This may force Liverpool into picking between the two Bournemouth stars, but that should not be a problem for the Merseyside club as they likely know which one they would prefer.
Liverpool know which Bournemouth star to choose
Huijsen’s father has hinted that Real Madrid is his son’s preferred destination ahead of the 2025/26 campaign but that does not mean Liverpool cannot get a deal for the 19-year-old done.
However, that is competition the Reds do not need and the left-back area is more of a concern for Slot given the performances of Robertson this season.
Kerkez is an opportunity Liverpool cannot miss out on this summer as the full-back is young, has a familiar style of play to Robertson, and his numbers this season have been impressive.
Player | Games | Goals | Assists | Minutes |
Milos Kerkez | 32 | 2 | 5 | 2764 |
Andy Robertson | 39 | 0 | 1 | 2853 |
Should Liverpool agree a deal for the Hungary international for around the £40m mark, that would be an exceptional bit of business.
The Reds could probably bring in half that for Kostas Tsimikas, which would then save money to be spent on other areas of concern.
